How to sell ebooks online with PayPal
Three three basic steps to selling ebooks are:
- Write your ebook
- Publish it and connect it to your distribution system
- Marketing
Writing your ebook
Choose a topic or niche for your ebook. Select a topic or niche that you are passionate about or have expertise in. It’s essential to choose a topic that is in demand and has a market for it.
Next, write and format your ebook. Create your ebook in a format that is compatible with popular e-readers such as Kindle, Nook, or iBooks. You can use free online tools or hire a professional to help with formatting.
Then, create a cover. Design an eye-catching cover for your ebook. The cover should be professional-looking and visually appealing to potential readers.
I wrote my book in Google Docs. You could easily use Microsoft Word or a similar program. I proofread and edited it using Grammarly and then I designed the ebook cover with Canva.
Publishing the ebook (and distribution)
Publish and distributing your ebook comes next. Once you’ve completed the above steps, publish your ebook on your chosen platform and promote it to your target audience.
Where to sell ebooks
Choose a platform to sell your ebook. There are several online platforms to sell ebooks, including Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, Barnes & Noble’s Nook Press, and Apple iBooks. Research each platform and choose the one that suits your needs.
Other places where to sell ebooks:
- Sendowl
- Your website
- Fiverr
- Creative Market
- Etsy
I have ebooks on Gumroad, which I’m a big fan of. I also sell books on Amazon KDP.

For how to sell ebooks online with Paypal, look at platforms like Gumroad or Sendowl. You can connect your Paypal account and when customers buy, they’ll go through Paypal checkout. The money will go to your Paypal account and that’s how you’ll earn money.
This is how I make money in my sleep with my Gumroad ebooks.
Set a price. Determine the price for your ebook. Research your competitors and decide on a competitive price that will attract potential buyers.
Marketing your ebook
The last step is marketing! This can literally make or break your ebook sales.
Market your ebook by creating a marketing plan to promote your ebook. Use social media platforms, email marketing, and other digital marketing strategies to reach your target audience.
The marketing can get quite in depth. You can look at partnering with social media influencers like TikTokers that are on “booktok.” Or, you could pay for Amazon advertising if you sell in KDP. You could do paid Google ads or explore other options.

- Canva provides users with a user-friendly drag-and-drop interface, along with a vast library of pre-designed templates, images, icons, and fonts. Users can customize their designs by adding text, shapes, and images or by uploading their own graphics.
- Canva offers both free and paid versions of its platform. The free version provides access to a wide range of templates, images, and design elements, while the paid version, called Canva Pro, offers additional features, including more extensive design tools, unlimited storage, and access to premium templates and images.
Canva has become a popular tool for individuals and businesses looking to create professional-looking designs quickly and easily, without the need for extensive design skills or software. It is widely used by marketers, social media managers, bloggers, and small business owners, among others.
Use Canva to:
- Design your ebook cover
- Create graphics for your ebook
- Create marketing materials like ad visuals, etc.
I use Canva for ebook design. Just use the search field and type in “ebook cover” or “book cover” to see the various book templates available for book covers.
Pick your favorite, design it to your specifications, changing out the text, image, font, colors, etc. to really make it your own. Then, you can download it for your use.
Grammarly
Grammarly is an online grammar checking and writing enhancement tool that uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to help users improve their writing.
I use Grammarly for checking grammar, spelling and readability in my ebooks. It’s super easy to use Grammarly and it’s a smart way to spot check your work to make sure it’s error-free.
