44+ Legit Ways to Get Money Fast

Admit it or not, we all need money.

And in these hard economic times, many of us feel strapped for cash. But there are ways to get money fast.

Check out these quick ways to come up with that extra dough you always seem to be short on!

1. Sell something

Definitely one of the fastest and most legit ways to get money in your pocket super quick.

Do you have a bunch of old stuff just laying around the house?

Maybe from college?

Or from various moves over the years?

Try selling it!

It doesn’t have to be anything major, either. You can sell jewelry, old cellphones and accessories , books, DVDs and CDs , video games , electronics, furniture – The list goes on and on.

Just take a look around your house and think about what you could get rid of! You’d be surprised at all the useless junk you’ve accumulated over time.

Things I’ve personally sold to get quick cash?

My go-to for a long time was selling clothes and household goods. I’d do this every winter to raise some holiday spending money. The last time I did this was in 2019 and I made around $500 in a month and a half just selling stuff on Ebay.

All I do is go through my house, venture from room to room and pile things that I can sell. Then, I put them for sale online, usually on Ebay. I’m done!

I’ve also sold electronics like tablets, old cell phones, and other gadgets for some fast cash. Here are some places you can sell your things…

And, don’t forget you can also sell in person:

  • Garage sales
  • Consignment shops
  • Pawn shops
  • Thrift shops

2. Sell your hair

This is one of the most unusual ways to earn money but the truth is, it’s legit and it’s an easy, lucrative way to make money.

Depending on how long it is, you could make hundreds (if not thousands!) selling your hair.

If this is something that interests you, check out local beauty schools , they’re always looking for girls with long hair to come in and get their manes chopped off to use as wig supplies. Once again, people will pay good money for this stuff.

3. Get a second job

Pick up a second job in your area.

This can be a nice money earner especially during seasonal times like the holidays.

It might sound extreme, but if you really need some quick cash, do whatever it takes!

Getting a second job can be hard, especially if you already have one full-time position.

But ask around – See if they’re hiring at the local coffee shop, grocery store, or maybe even at your full-time job. You might be surprised at how flexible some employers are – Especially if you tell them it’s for extra money to pay bills or get ahead financially!

4. Sell old electronics

Again, we’re back to selling.

If you are in a pinch, selling your electronics is a fast way to get cash.

Selling old cellphones , computers , and other electronics can be done online or in person.

These used pieces of equipment are in huge demand by people who either want new ones, or need repairs on older models. Just do an online search of whatever you have lying around that needs fixing.

A lot of companies will pay up front to take your items off your hands for easy money!

5. Sell blood plasma

My husband did this when we were dating.

The place he went to paid $400/month for donating plasma.

Today, there are places like this that pay up to $800 per month for donating your plasma!

Believe it or not, you can actually get paid to donate blood plasma from your blood . It’s a bit of a process – You have to be hooked up to a machine that takes out the plasma , which is then separated and made into medication . But it’s easy money, and it pays relatively well.

6. Sell your hair on eBay

Sell your hair.

This time go to Ebay.

If selling locally isn’t working for you, try selling your hair online!

There are several websites that will let you do this – Just Google ‘sell hair online’ or something similar. It’s an easy way to make some extra cash; Many beauty supply shops even buy human hair (that hasn’t been colored or treated with any chemicals ) for use in wigs ! Pretty cool stuff

7. Work overtime hours

One of the most legit ways you can score extra cash is through your job. Just work overtime.

If you work somewhere that pays hourly, always ask your boss if you can be given overtime hours. These extra hours are usually much needed by people who need to pick up a few extra bucks to get by.

Also, it’s good to mention that you’re open to working odd hours (after 6PM , for example) so they know they could call on you when the business starts picking up!

8. Sell old textbooks

I did this in college.

I was the one in my friend group to get consistent cash for selling my books.

f you have books or other school supplies , sell them back at the end of semester! It might not seem like it at the time, but selling old textbooks is actually very easy.

All you usually need is your student ID card and to fill out some basic paperwork. Then just put your books in one of those big bins at your school’s bookstore and wait for the cash!

And, you can even do this as a consistent business.

Book flippers are making thousands per week selling books.

Places to sell old textbooks?

  • Ebay
  • Used book marketplaces
  • Used bookstores

9. Get a part-time job

This is like getting a second job mentioned above but instead, you’ll be working a second job part-time.

This puts a lot less pressure on you and although you’ll probably make less than working a second job full time, you’ll have more personal time for yourself and this option might be the best fit for balance in your life, without getting overwhelmed or overworked.

Getting a second part time job is one of the top ways to make some quick money.

Go to your local grocery store or mall, or even Craigslist , and look for part-time jobs you can do on the side. These are easy to find, especially if you’re willing to work odd hours.

It might take up some time that could be spent studying or hanging out with friends, but it will be worth the extra dough!

10. Sell old clothing

Again, back to selling!

This is one of my favorite ways to raise cash fast. I like selling my old clothing that I can’t or don’t wear anymore. I also do this with my sons outgrown kids clothes.

This one should go without saying; The more stuff you have lying around collecting dust, the higher chance it has of selling fast.

Try eBay , Craigslist , or even Facebook marketplace to sell off your old clothing . People are always looking for stuff they can either re-wear, or that they can re-sell at a higher price. Don’t forget to take some ‘model shots’ in the outfit before you list it online!

Where to sell used clothes?

11. Sell homemade crafts

Make crafts?

Sell them!

This is another one that should be obvious by now; If you have any kind of talent , use it to make some cash!

People will pay good money for things like handmade jewelry, paintings , and other trinkets crafted with care . Just try not to overprice them (the whole point of making something yourself is saving money after all!)

12. Enter contests

An unreliable way to make extra money but if you win, you win!

Believe it or not, there are actually contests you can enter where the prize is CASH.

Who says you need to win a sports game or sing your heart out to make some money?

All it takes is filling out an entry form , which usually has no purchase necessary, and either waiting to win or doing something unique for a chance at winning big. Search Google for ‘contest + (your city)’ to find one near you!

Find contests by doing a quick Google search like shown above. Join contest and sweepstakes communities where you can connect with others who like to enter contests too. You can learn a lot and get the inside scoop on other great places to find contests to enter in.

13. Sell pictures

Sell your photos!

Are there any pictures on your Instagram, Facebook , or other social media profile you never look at?

Well now’s your chance to cash in on them! There are several companies that will buy old photos from you, including ShutterStock , iStockPhoto , and even Adobe Stock.

It’s easy money just sitting there on your hard drive – Might as well sell it!

14. Sell toys

Your kids toys can be a goldmine.

Go through toys your kids don’t play with any more and sell them!

These are good to sell online on places like marketplace sites, social media, community groups, etc.

15. Take up freelance work

Insanely lucrative!

Well, it can be!

If you’re good with something like web design or graphic design , you can find some quick money by doing freelance work for people in need.

Websites like Fiverr and Freelancer let you post jobs that other freelancers can do if they’re willing to accept the price you set.

Be careful though: Stay away from bidding wars and only choose the projects where the employer seems legit. Not all of them will pay out properly so be smart and avoid risks whenever possible.

16. Grow your own food

Farming has been a popular hobby for centuries and it’s still going strong today! You can start small by growing an herb garden or even just planting some flowers , but there are also options like chicken coops and beehives that can provide you with cool perks as well as an income.

Check out the website of someone like Johnny Seeds to see what all is involved in getting started.

17. Sell websites

I do this!

I have made six figures selling websites on the side. It’s incredibly fun, fulfilling and it’s a side hustle you can do on the side or full-time.

You do not need to be tech savvy or know how to code.

Just create a site, add content, and flip for profit.

How it works?

Let me break it down a bit more for you.

1. Build a website

This just involves buying hosting and a domain, then adding a theme or template to your site to make it attractive and then you can start adding content.

2. Grow the site

This can be done quite simply just by adding content. This means you’ll add helpful articles and content to your website. For example, if you start a food blog, you might add recipes. If you start a travel site, you might write articles on how to score the best deals to Europe.

3. Sell for profit

The best part! Sell the site for profit at any point in time. I’ve done this when the site was 30 days old and I’ve done it when the site was 2+ years old.

18. Offer pet-sitting services

Pet lover?

If you’re able to, this one’s actually easy money!

All it requires is a bit of spare time and some love for pets . You can put up flyers or post ads on Craigslist or even TaskRabbit (just be careful who you meet!) about your services and wait for the new clients to come knocking! Just remember to charge reasonably since you will have lots of competition in bigger cities.

19. Sell videos

Do either YouTube or Twitch seem like too much work?

That’s okay; There are other options for making some quick bucks with video-making! Sites like Clips 4 Sale let you sell short clips that people can buy for just 25 cents each ; Not bad if you can make a few of them each day!

20. Sell domains

Kind of like website flipping but less work.

Find domains that are high value low price, then buy and sell for profit.

21. Tutor students

Does tutoring seem boring? Maybe so… But there’s a reason companies like Sylvan Learning exist: People are willing to pay good money for one-on-one help from someone who knows the subject better than they do!

22. Rent your stuff

Nowadays you can rent almost anything for quick cash:

  • Your apartment
  • Your car
  • Photography equipment

If you own assets like these you can make passive income by renting this stuff out.

For your apartment, you can rent it when it’s not in use, like when you’re on vacation.

It’s called Airbnb rental arbitrage. Many people think you can only earn money from short-term rentals if you own a house but that’s just not true. You can do it when you rent.

In fact, you can rent a second apartment or rent many other apartments and use them exclusively to earn money on Airbnb. It’s really interesting and more and more people are exploring it.

Then, there’s short term car rental with companies like Turo. Once you join, you can rent your car out to renters, similar to what you’d do with Airbnb but using your vehicle instead.

This is good for times when you’re not using your car like if you go on vacation or travel for the holidays, etc.

Photography equipment is expensive and there are sites that will let you rent out your camera, lenses and equipment to earn money.

These are just a few ways you can earn money with renting your stuff. You can also rent out designer goods, handbags, and more. Explore this if you’re interested. It’s a great way to make money passively.

23. Deliver food

Food delivery is one of the top gig work jobs. People love it because it can be quite high-paying and it’s one of the most flexible jobs you can do for quick cash.

As a delivery driver your job will be to pickup restaurant orders from restaurants and deliver to customers.

I’m a big fan of this and I commonly order from DoorDash every month. Life is busy and I don’t mind wasting $10 on delivery fees to get food delivered to my house as I’m trying to manage a busy day and be a mom and wife to my household.  For me, it’s totally worth it.

Drivers get to wear casual clothes, listen to music or podcasts while they’re working, work when they want and make up to $25/hour or more, depending on the company you’re with and how much you’re earning per order and tips.

The companies to check out for this include:

These are just a handful of the many delivery companies that exist.

If you have access to a vehicle, look into this.

People make a full-time income delivery driving. There’s money in this and for the independence and flexibility you get, you can’t beat it.

This Uber EATS case study is documented on YouTube. It shows a driver who embarked on an interesting challenge, to see how much he could make as an Uber EATS driver in 30 days. Here’s how he did…

24. Deliver groceries

Grocery delivery works similarly to restaurant delivery.

You’ll deliver grocery orders to the homes of customers. Some delivery companies offer shopper jobs too where you’ll shop the order and deliver or just shop the order or just deliver the order, your choice.

So, if you don’t have stable transportation, this can still be an option for you to get paid.

Check out Instacart and Shipt to learn more.

25. Run errands

Get paid to run errands for others. This can be things like picking up dry cleaning, installing or setting up furniture, data entry into a spreadsheet, etc.

Amazon Mechanical Turk and Task Rabbit are examples of companies that offer this.

Amazon Mechanical Turk is all about small micro tasks you can do for money.

Amazon Mechanical Turk homepage

Task Rabbit is similar but includes in-person jobs, not all online like Amazon Mechanical Turk.

26. Start a blog

This is something I dabble in and I first started blogging a few years ago. My first blog earned me $80 in month 2, over $800 in month 3, $1,400 in month 5 and $20,000 in month 9!

Some bloggers see success right off the bat, earning up to $100K per year starting in year one. I’ve seen bloggers go zero to $5,000 per month in their first 6 months and others making $70K to $80K per month just a few years into their blogging journey.

It can be a slow progression though and everyone’s results are different.

How does blogging work?

You basically build a website and write articles about anything you want. Most bloggers will center their blog around a topic and blog specifically about that topic so they can draw in a specific audience for that niche.

Some examples of niches include:

  • Food
  • Travel
  • Finance
  • Mom/Parenting
  • Babies
  • Pregnancy
  • Lifestyle

Then, you can niche down your blog even further to get really specific about what you’re talking about.

Like, instead of a food blog, you can do a dessert blog or a vegan blog.

Instead of a parenting blog, you can do a special needs parenting blog or a homeschooling blog.

Or, instead of a general lifestyle blog, you can write about military spouse lifestyle or college life.

How do you earn money blogging?

  • Ads
  • Sponsorships
  • Products and services
  • Affiliate marketing

27. Social media influencer

Kind of like blogging but instead you’ll be on social media.

An Instagram influencer will create content through their photo and video posts, painting a picture of their story in their caption. You can monetize in all the same ways I shared in blogging like sponsorships and affiliate marketing, among other ways.

I started drawing an income from influencing this year and make a few thousand dollars per month from it.

28. Mobile detailing

Get into mobile car detailing and you can earn money cleaning cars.

This can involve car washing, waxing and vacuuming. It’s a mobile business which means you’ll travel to your customers.

This can be a lucrative business and more in demand than you might think.

According to this source, the mobile detailing industry is projected to increase by 9.4% in 2021.

It’s a convenience that beats sitting in the lobby of an auto shop for hours and customers are willing to pay for it.

If you’re good at cleaning cars and you don’t mind the travel, look into this as an opportunity to earn money.

29. Online arbitrage

Arbitrage is about making money off the price differences in the market.

For example, you could cop a pair of limited edition new release sneakers at a retail price of $200 and resell at $600 because of the low supply and high demand, making you a $400 profit.

You can also scout out the sales in your local retail store like Walmart or Bed, Bath and Beyond, grabbing items on sale and reselling at full price to make money.

For example, you could buy a weighted bathrobe at Walmart for $20 on sale and resell on Ebay for $40.

This is called flipping or arbitrage. You can do it entirely online, online and in person or entirely in person, your choice.

Where to source goods for arbitrage?

Stores. Just regular retail stores. Wholesale or warehouse stores like Costco could also be money makers and don’t miss out on pawn shops, thrift shops, flea markets, and Goodwill too.

How much can you earn from online arbitrage?

People are making a full-time income, believe it or not. To learn more check out fleamarketflippers.com.

30. Babysitting

Make money babysitting kids.

You could join sites like Care or Sitter City and make up to $40 per hour or more babysitting kids.

This is an easy enough job. You’ll need to be a responsible adult in charge of supervising kids, possibly preparing meals and small snacks, helping with nighttime routine possibly and getting the kids off to bed.

31. Sell stock photos

Selling stock photography is a side hustle that can pay amateur and pro photographers.

There are tons of sites where you can sell your photo work online:

  • Dreamstime
  • 500px
  • Getty Images
  • Alamy

And, you can also sell in handmade marketplaces like Etsy and Creative Market.

32. Sell digital products

Digital products are a great source of passive income to help you sell you;

  • Printables
  • Templates
  • Themes
  • Ebooks
  • Courses

Once you create your digital product, you can put it up for sale and make money in your sleep.

I sell a few ebooks that I started this year and they earn me money passively. I sell on Gumroad and in exchange for paying them a small percentage of each sale, they host my ebooks, process payments, pay me and instantly deliver the product to the customer.

For course selling you can use:

Or you can look at course marketplace like Skillshare or Udemy.

33. Do affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing makes you a commission when your product referral results in a sale.

For example, I referred my sister to Ebates (now Rakuten_ a few years back. Ebates is a cashback tool that rewards you with cashback when you shop through their shopping portal.

I gave her my affiliate link and when she joined, I made a $25 commission and she earned $10 to shop with through Ebates.

Easy!

I’ve sold thousands in courses for various creators, making money in affiliate commissions like this one…

Or this one…

affiliate commissions

After learning affiliate marketing I 10X’ed my income and went from $80 to over $800 in just 3 weeks.

This is the course that taught me.

34. Become a YouTuber

Running a YouTube channel is an opportunity to build a brand for yourself online. You can create a channel about just about anything you want from meditation, manifestation, food, money, business, travel, etc.

How to start a YouTube channel?

First, you’ll create your free YouTube account.

Then, build your channel, naming it, adding cover art and then you can start uploading videos.

How can you make money with YouTube?

  • Ads
  • Sponsorships
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Selling products and services

I started my YouTube channel in a faceless niche last year and grew it to 300K+ subscribers in that time.

Growth can be tricky depending on the channel but if you have 5-10K subscribers, it’s possible to make a six figure income.

35. Car Billboard

Making money with car billboards is a passive way to earn extra cash.

You put a billboard sticker on your vehicle whether it’s an entire car wrap or a rear window sticker and you make money driving around town in your normal routine.

You can make up to hundreds to thousands of dollars for a single campaign with no change to your schedule.

If you’re curious about how to earn money passively, check this out.

36. Start a vending machine business

A vending machine business is a passive income earner as well though it’ll take startup cash to get this project off the ground.

You will need to invest in vending machines, supplies for your machine (like candies, cookies, drinks, or whatever you’ll stock the machine with), then transport expenses to deliver the machine from your home or office to the dispatch location, as well as ongoing expenses to keep the machine stocked.

But, it’s easy money, to be honest, after you get things off the ground.

To learn more, read about these 7 tips for starting a vending machine business.

37. Assemble furniture

Furniture assembly is a task-based job that you can do in your free time.

You can join websites like Task Rabbit or Thumbtack and make money assembling furniture for your neighbors and people that live in your city.

38. Moving

If you’re strong and you’re seeking a job that will get you out and moving, away from a stuffy office, look at moving people for extra cash.

It’s hard work but the time will go by quickly and you can get a good workout while you’re doing it.

The last time I moved from San Antonio to Houston, Texas I used a service that loaded and unloaded the moving truck for me. I just rented a Uhaul then the movers came in their own vehicle, loaded up the truck and I paid them then I used a different crew in Houston to unload the truck and I paid them.

It was so easy and you can make money for the move and a tip.

This is a no-startup kind of job other than the possible fees for joining a website to list this service under yourself.

Join websites like Thumbtack and service-based marketplaces where you can get hired to move people.

39. House cleaning

House cleaning helps consumers to clean and organize their messy house. This can be a major pain in the butt and a lot of people do not mind paying a professional to clean their home for them.

As a house cleaner you will either work alone or in a team and go room by room to clean your client’s home.

This is a good source of recurring income and you can turn this into a full-time income opportunity which can become your primary income source.

40. Closet organization

Make money organizing closets.

Closets get messy so quick. Take it from me.

I clean my closet out at least once a month.

People get busy and sometimes the mess and overwhelm a crazy closet brings is just too much. It can be easier to outsource that work of cleaning and organization to a professional.

And that’s where you will come in.

As a professional closet organizer you will work with customers to organize their closet space. It might take you up to a few hours to map out your cleaning/organization plan and finish the project and in exchange you’ll have a happy customer and get paid.

How to get started with closet organization?

This will be your business so you will need to do things like:

  • Form your business (LLC, sole proprietor, etc.)
  • Get relevant permits and licenses for your area, if applicable
  • Buy supplies for cleaning and organization
  • Set up a website (optional)
  • Set up a business bank account
  • Get your bookkeeping in order
  • Find clients

This can be a fun and rewarding project, not to mention lucrative. If this sounds up your alley, take action and get started.

How to make money fast today?

These are some ideas to help you make some quick cash when you need it. Some are businesses you can start, others are opportunities to make money on the spot and others are gig work jobs and side hustles.

But wait, fast cash is on the brain.

What if you need to make money fast?

Like, in under two weeks.

Is this really possible?

It is and these are the jobs that can put money in your pocket quickly and make you fast cash:

  • Jobs where you can sell – #1, #2, #4, #5, and #6 are examples
  • Jobs where you perform a service for cash – #38, #39 and #40 are examples
  • Flipping or arbitrage-based jobs – #17 and #29

First, jobs where you sell something for money can be a quick money earner.

You might think it’ll take forever to sell but many times it doesn’t. As long as you have good, bright photos showcasing what you’re selling (if you sell online) and you have a reasonable price, you can expect a sale to come sooner rather than later in many cases.

Next, jobs that pay you to perform a service usually pay you before you start the project, a deposit so you have some of the money or immediately following the service.

Then, flipping or arbitrage offers a quick turnaround for cash, rewarding you with money as soon as you successfully flip, just like with selling.

Other ways to make money fast

These honorable mentions are worth bringing up..

41. Selling gift cards

This one is another arbitrage-based side hustle where you buy gift cards low and sell high.

You can find gift cards in gift card marketplaces like Giftcard Granny or Raise. People receive gift cards as gifts and they might want to exchange it for cash so they go to these sites to sell their cards.

My sister received a Red Lobster gift card for Christmas and hates seafood so she went to a site like this and got about 95% of the value of the card.

It’s worth it to people to get $95 of the $100 gift card value for example, to get the cash.

I took a course on Udemy once where a gift card seller was making around $3,000 per month in a side hustle like this. It can be done.

42. Credit card points

This is an easy passive income money maker. You have debit and credit cards. Use them for the points then cash them in.

One of my old debit cards was awesome for this and three times a year I’d cash the points in for rewards like an iPad, furniture, home goods and other gifts. My rewards plan was for gifts only, not cash but many are cash-based cards.

It can make it worth it, especially if you’re making a big buy like purchasing a TV.

I read a story a while back of a woman buying her car on her credit card. It was a $25,000 car and she put it on her credit card to get the points.

Smart!

43. Online surveys and panels

You get paid for your personal opinion participating in panels and online survey sites.

Online surveys are available in abundance. First you’ll join a survey site, then start taking surveys for cash.

You can literally take them all day long, 8 hours a day or longer but they are pretty low-paying at a few cents to a few dollars each. If you can find one for $10 or so, that’s a steal!

Panels on the other hand are in short supply but they are very high paying, ranging from $20 to $400 each, if you are selected. There are tons of panel opportunities you can find and apply to daily but you’ll likely only get chosen to participate in a few throughout the year which doesn’t make this a stable, consistent way to make money.

I like survey sites because they are easy cash earners even though they are low paying. Doing some throughout the month could make you $50 to $100 extra a month and that can go toward paying down debt or building up your savings account.

Then, sprinkle in online panels which are much more high paying and a great income supplement throughout the year.

These (online surveys and online panels) are both good sources of extra money though for those times during the year you want to make a little more.

44. Make money with an app

There are money-making apps that can pay you extra money to do various things from:

  • Watch ads
  • Watch TV and movies
  • Listen to music
  • Play games
  • Take surveys
  • Online shop
  • Discover stuff online

Here are some of my favorite app opportunities (including survey sites) for extra money:

  • Swagbucks – this app gives you a bunch of different tasks that you can choose from and make money with
  • Inbox Dollars – this app is similar to Swagbucks. It’s multifaceted and gives you a lot of choices to make money
  • Pinecone Research – this app is one of the highest paying for surveys.

45. Virtual Assistant

A virtual assistant is someone that is a personal assistant online. The tasks you’ll do as a virtual assistant or VA will vary from client to client.

Some clients might have you run their social media accounts, others might have you focus on data entry and spreadsheets, others may need you to help with organization and scheduling and you might do a mix of all these things or other tasks not shared here.

A virtual assistant can make $13 to $15 per hour starting out with some full-time VA’s making up to $10,000 per month helping their clients, like Kayla Sloan.

You will like working as a virtual assistant because it’s online work, you’ll be a business owner and there’s the potential to make a lot of money. Who wouldn’t love working from home making up to five figures per month?

To get started as a virtual assistant, you’ll want to do things like build a website, get the proper licenses/permits for your area based on the business type you’ll operate under (like LLC, sole proprietor, etc.), open business bank accounts, and find your first clients.

Bottom line

Get started! We just went over dozens of different ways you can get money fast. Whether you need quick cash or extra money, you’re looking for passive income opportunities, you want to start a business or need a hustle idea, we’ve got you covered!

That’s it!

We just covered 40 ways to help you get money fast. Hope this helps.

What do you think? Which hustle idea is your favorite?
