Having Strategy and Vision
Strategy and vision is a tricky one. There’s no definitive plan for success, but at the same time, you’d better hope you have something solid from the get-go.
A good place to start is by simply meeting with your team and brainstorming what your ideal situation would look like: what you’d achieve should everything go swimmingly. This provides a springboard for you to start brainstorming feasible ways of achieving the goal.
This is also the time when you’ll hone in on a specific business model: it could be subscription-based, affiliate, a hybrid between those two, or something else. Just make sure you do your research thoroughly and don’t be afraid to ask for advice (if you want to remain anonymous, Reddit is always a great bet for free advice on important decisions).
Leveraging Social Media
Like it or not, social media is here to stay. Accusations of how it’s ruining our society aside, there’s a lot it can do for a media business, so don’t cut off your nose to spite your face.
Short-form content is incredibly important for marketing yourself, so both company Instagram and TikTok accounts can be a huge asset. The content can come in the form of images, infographics, or videos, but acquiring followers and infiltrating their feeds is a crucial method for garnering engagement.
A lot goes into successful social media marketing, and it usually requires many different skill sets – these can comprise general industry service training to skills in video editing, illustration, and copywriting, and you’ll need to have a team well-versed in a plethora of skills to succeed.
Financial and Legal Logistics
A great idea is one thing – but it means little if you know nothing about the logistics of actually achieving it.
For example, you must be well-versed in the laws on copyright and intellectual property, as well as data protection regulations. You’ll also need fundamental skills in drafting and reviewing contracts and content licensing documents, and further to the financial side of things, you’ll need everything ironed out with the bank.
Wrapping Up
Starting a business is a double-edged sword: it’s both incredibly challenging and insatiably rewarding. There’s a lot more that goes into it than we could cover in this article, but hopefully, the above tips gave you some key insight into getting your ducks in a row.
